Good purchase. September 6, 2010 The Captain The picture is good, but could be a little more sharper. Also cloulding appears on some dark scenes.
Solid picture quality and performance September 5, 2010 Brett After reading some of the reviews talking about jittery output from a 1080p source, I was a little leery buying this TV but I am glad I did. It did take almost 2 weeks to deliver through Amazon though and the tracking provided via CEVA was a little misleading. That was the only part of the whole experience that could have used improvement. I also purchased the Peerless SF670 low profile mount through Amazon. The mount was already installed when the TV arrived so I mounted the brackets and the rear plate covering the stand hole on the back and the new TV was on the wall and hooked up in 10 minutes with one other person helping. Although this TV is light enough for one to pick up, it is bulky and it would have been dangerous putting it up alone.
The picture on this television is as advertised: great color, detail and refresh. There is a setting for Auto Motion Plus that comes activated in Standard mode from the factory. This is probably what caused other people so much trouble with the jittery performance. This mode for me also caused studdering and jittery playback for 1080p content. Setting this mode to Clear or turning it off alltogether clears up the problem. The Auto Motion Plus feature is ONLY a gimmick and although it looks kind of neat in a trippy way, I could not imagine watching ANYTHING that way for any period of time, even if it didn't studder. Some have talked about getting a firmware update to fix the jittering but I didn't even bother because I would rather watch movies the way they were intended to be be displayed, not in some surreal bizzare way.
I am pushing 1080p from 2 sources... an XBMC media server running on an Aspire Revo with HDMI output and an HDMI HD cable reciever, all switched through an HDMI matrix switch with over 30 feet of HDMI cables. The audio is tapped from a TOSLink fiber connector on the matrix switch and fed into an Onkyo DTS reciever. Through all of this wiring, the picture has always been full 1080p and there is no delay in audio vs. video, even with the audio tapped upstream from the video. In my setup, I only run two cables to each TV, one HDMI and a return optical in case the audio ever was out of sync with the video - like I said though, no problems there so not really needed if you are using a HDMI switch with digital out.
All in all, this TV was a very good value for my setup and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. I have only had it a week though so have no comment about reliability.
Nice - but PIP will not work on any Samsung LCD August 29, 2010 Bill Just bought Samsung 55" LED. Great picture, easy to set up. Bad surprise that PIP does not work. You cannot watch two channels from your Cable Box. You can watch a DVD, or some other source, which does zero good.
This from the Samsung support site:
Important: The information above, except for the Note, does not apply to Samsung LCD TVs that have PIP capability. Currently, all Samsung LCD TVs with PIP capability have a single tuner and are incapable of displaying two channels simultaneously, whether they are attached to a cable box or not.
I think it's pretty misleading to say that you have PIP, and not tell us that it's essentially useless.
So Far So Good August 23, 2010 corona91719 It came down to the Panasonic G20 or this. Wasn't too sure about the loss of black levels on the Panasonic so I decided to go with the Samsung. Very clean and understated design. The picture quality is very nice. Hooked up my new Oppo BDP-83 and WOW!!!! Watched Avatar and Transformers and both looked great. Noticed some, what I believe people call, "Flash-lighting" at the bottom corners with letter-boxed movies. Sound is fine for now as I have yet to hook it up to my 5.1 system. Only concern will be reliability. For that I will have to wait and see. For now, I recommend this product!!!
Had same problem others have noted August 22, 2010 J. Cassella 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just thought I should let potential buyers know that I had the same skipping problem noted others. In fact this problem seems fairly wide spread if one does a Google search. Picture quality was very good but I had hard skips with Blue Rays and terrible streaming performance. Tried many adjustments, contacted customer service and tried downloading the firmware update, which is supposed to fix streaming issues (which I could not get the TV to recognize). Finally gave up and sent the TV back. Bought a new Panasonic VT25 series plasma and couldn't be happier. The new set is a lot more expensive, but it does work - making it a TV to be used not an ongoing project.
The only thing more annoying then the TV was the company telling me they were unaware of the problem. I recommended they do a Google search. Or better yet, read comments by customers on their own website.
So if you buy this TV don't throw out the box. It may work great for you, as some have indicated. But it seems there's a good chance it won't.
I do not recommend this product.
