3 out of 5 stars Watch out when buying this product   September 5, 2010
Marcelo
Pros
1.Video resolution is great
2.It has two pen drive inputs to read from
3.It has HDMI

Cons
1.From all the MKV I've tested so far (about 10) I was just able to play one with audio. Audio is not working even after upgrading the firmware.
2.No matter how many level of folders you have for your pics, videos and music, you'll see everything in one list

If you have any idea on how to make the audio work for all mkvs I'd appreciate your feedback.

2 out of 5 stars Audio issue   September 3, 2010

It does not play certain audio files attached to the video. My friend told me it does not play DTS audio so you would have to hook it to a Receiver to get audio. I am going with the Patriot Media Box.

5 out of 5 stars So Good, I Bought 2!!!   August 5, 2010

I recently bought a second WDTV HD not because my first one broke but because I enjoyed the first one so much I wanted another one. I had one in my bedroom for the last year and would use it on an almost daily basis. I got a second unit for my living room and to travel with. I have not run in to any problems watching files or listening to music. I was able to create a slide-show with music for a graduation party using it without any troubles. The full HD support is great to have and makes a difference in video quality, The unit is very easy to travel with and fits in my luggage easily.

5 out of 5 stars A 'must-have' item if you store digital movies   July 30, 2010
Gabriel Young (Warwick, PA)
I own two of these media players and they are absolutely amazing. I have thousands of movies and I have them all sitting on WD Passport hard drives. All I have to do is plug a hard drive into a media player and I have my entire library at my fingertips!

So instead of watching my movies on my PC, I can watch them on my main TV with my kids. My 'kids' folder has about 100 movies and they can be entertained without me having to worry about looking for DVDs or loading them in.

For the reviews that said this thing is buggy, it's NOT! I got my first one about two years ago and never had an issue. It never locked up and reads every format I throw at it. Just make sure you download the firmware from the WD download site.

When I bought this refurbished one, I knew it would be perfect for the basement TV or anywhere else in the house (my first unit is connected to my family room TV in a permanent spot). The only thing this doesn't have is the WD Passport stand, which is no big deal. Well worth the $50 if you ask me!
